The original air that Robert Burns based his poem, Auld Lang Syne on. I heard this performed by the band Keltricity, during our Yule Ya'll joint performance, and really love this tune, as opposed to the more popular Auld Lang Syne recorded by Guy Lombardo.

An American fiddle tune named for the Battle of New Orleans.  Tune was later set to words by Jimmy Driftwood, a school principal, trying to teach history through song.

In May for Mountain Dulcimer.pdf

In May was written by Franz Behr (1837-1898), a German composer of songs and solo piano pieces.

This is the first of the tunes on this page that you are invited to download the sheet music and listen to the audio recording.

I recorded the tune by first playing strictly by the music, in a classical style, and then repeated the tune with more liberty using

ornamentation by string players including slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, along with dynamic changes and some freedom with tempo.

I recorded Wild Mountain Thyme on my debut CD, Night Cap.  That recording was based on this arrangement.  Click on the pdf for a printable arrangement.  This arrangement is one of several beautiful tunes in Lullabies and Other Lilting Melodies, a Mel Bay Publication.

Battle Hymn of the Republic.pdf

Our dulcimer club was recently asked to play a "patriotic" set.  I had this piece of music in mind to arrange for some time, so this was the perfect incentive.  The lyrics are written by Julia Ward Howe, and set to the tune of what was known at the beginning of the Civil War as John Brown's Body.  It is now included in patriotic celebrations across the country.

A multicultural song arranged for mountain dulcimer.
