Things About Strings
Lorinda Jones is a nationally recognized folk music performer, recording artist, and music therapist, residing in Rineyville, Kentucky. Based on her 13 years of teaching music in the classroom, and her lifelong interest in folk music, Lorinda has produced an educational video that is the most comprehensive of its kind. The video not only allows the listener to hear the sound of each instrument, but also provides historical information, plus a visual and aural presentation showing the parts of the instruments:
- Autoharp
- Banjo
- Bass fiddle
- Mouth bow
- Folk harp
- Lyre harp
- Hammered dulcimer
- Mountain dulcimer
- Fiddle
- Guitar
- Mandolin
- Psaltery
- Zither
- Scheitholt
After viewing the video, students remarked how they enjoyed hearing the variety of instruments, how the conversation dialogue kept their attention for 30 minutes, and how much they learned about the roots of American music, including mountain and Bluegrass music.
The Teacher's Edition CD-Rom is a valuable tool for the teacher as a comprehensive lesson plan as it includes:
- Vocabulary list
- Pre and Post Test
- Matching word game
- Historical timeline
- Instructional content
- In-depth history about the dulcimer and harp
- Video script
- Instrument pictures
The video and CD-Rom can be used as a total unit package, or as a preceding or follow-up activity in coordination with a performance visit.
Video Cost: $15.95
